Toyota Prius: The Hybrid Automobile That Fixed The Industry Standard

February 7, 2012 on 3:00 am | By | In Giovanna Wheels | No Comments

Toyota has become an icon of craftsmanship when it comes to building cars. Toyota continues to reign in the automotive marketplace as they unveiled their hybrid vehicles. The Toyota Prius established the standard for hybrids and continues to develop while many other firms have yet to produce their own version. The affordable price and superb fuel economy made the Prius a very sought after car. In addition, Prius has become the best in terms of minimal tailpipe emissions. Hybrid cars have a combination of electric motor and internal combustion engine that’s powered by gas. The electric motor allowed for less toxic emissions and better fuel economy.

Toyota built their reputation on reliability and continues to do so with the Prius. The hybrids, also those that came out almost a decade ago, continue to be a good value as a pre-owned car. There were once fears for the hybrid car’s durability but to date, it’s been proven durable. The only real draw back is, due to its complex engine, the cost of future repairs could possibly be high. Design-wise, the Prius has not really changed significantly as it remains a four-door hatchback.

The Prius’ powertrain consists of a 1.8 liter fuel motor that creates 98 horsepower and 105 pound-feet of torque. There’s a changeable transmission which, in tandem, is working in conjunction with two electric motors. At 100 % acceleration, the power is created from each electric and gas powered motors. Fuel-efficiency is maximized in stop and go traffic by running on electrical power only. The battery pack can charge from regular braking.

On the road, the new Prius has significantly better pick-up compared to previous types, but still lags from traffic stomps. The Prius bettered its already amazing fuel economy to almost 50 miles per gallon. The Prius’ other changes occurred in the interior, which features a more conventional center control stack. You now have a system display that is next to the digital speedometer and is a bit high on the dash. The basic stereo and climate controls are no longer touchscreen but regular physical buttons. Tall people ought to have it somewhat easier having a more adjustable seat and a telescoping steering wheel. Though the Prius seems to be fairly small, the interior still provides extensive elbow room and lots of cargo space.

Toyota continues to make the Prius an outstanding automobile with amazing fuel economy and versatility. There’s really no reason why a Prius would not be an alternative as they drive like traditional cars. Although you do have other options, the Prius remains the recognized standard for great hybrid cars. Watch giovanna wheels.
